Just read a reader comment on Boxcar Children. That’s another series she LOVES and she was really into the Bobbsey Twins for a while which was cute and nostalgic.

NANCY DREW, NANCY DREW, NANCY DREW!!! She can’t get enough of her! Ironically, she doesn’t want to read Little House books cause she found parts scary. She really enjoyed the American Girl books we read, but stopped because she found out each had a section that was too sad for her and she didn’t read them anymore because she didn’t want to read about sad things. She LOVES Magic Tree House. She went through a Babysitter Club phase (thank God that’s over) and some pet series, Animal Ark I think. We just discovered a new series published in 1999 I never heard of called Mandie or something and it looks like a good adventure/mystery series. I’m surprised I haven’t heard of it before because it looks as good (or better than) Nancy Drew books. (Although I have to admit, I just skimmed through them. But I’ll be reading them to her. She picked it out herself.) Mystery and Adventure.

My 7 year old loves American Girl (I do too with all the history in them), the Fairytopia books and Boxcar children. We read the MagicTree house chapter books too. She is the kind that we have to pry the book away from her.

We taught a Little House class at a homeschool co-op and the boys loved it!

Hunting, fishing, building houses, horses, dogs, what’s not to love?

When I taught 2nd grade, the Little House on the Prairie books were a huge hit. And I was always surprised that it was the boys who were asking for the next one!

Nathan loves the Magic Treehouse series and Junie B. Jones books, but what really got him into chapterbooks is the Captain Underpants books. The are somewhat irreverant, but totally hilarious.

Nice post. The Magic Treehouse books have really been a hit with my neices and nephew. These books really focus on a key age when it is tough to get kids to read. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, and this summer, we did the library reading program, the Barnes and Noble free book program, and I made up my own program cause they wanted booklights so badly (made them read “X” amount for them).
